Man Overboard
By Blue ~ 2005-07-04
-
- I’m swimming in the ocean
- Against unwelcome currents
- Far too many feelings
- Much too far from shore
- No stable ground to cling to
- No anchor for my root
- No buoy to lift me up
- No lighthouse to guide me home
-
- Oh, won’t some friendly swimmer
- Come out to help save me?
- With gentle arms to hold me
- With straining legs to urge me
- With kissing breath sustain me
- With kindly face to watch our progress
- Where is that able seaman,
- Someone to guide me home?
-
- Where is that distant shore,
- Is it one I’ve never seen?
- Or is it just like the last I left,
- As uncertain as before?
- Will the natives there be friendly,
- Or tear my heart apart?
- Will I know their language?
- Will they understand the words I speak?
-
- Give me warm sandy beaches
- Let sun and breeze and your caress
- Across my thighs and chest
- Release this swelling tide
- Some smiling, suntanned native,
- Some crisp, proper sailor,
- Some salty, swaggering seaman,
- Or just another passenger like me
-
- Please rescue me from this swirling sea
- And guide me into haven-port
- Join me in my berth
- Soothe my tired, flagging soul
- Replace my lost confusion
- With surety and trust
- Then together will we rest
- And tomorrow, chart a new course
-
