Man Overboard

By Blue ~ 2005-07-04

  1.
  2. I’m swimming in the ocean
  3. Against unwelcome currents
  4. Far too many feelings
  5. Much too far from shore
  6. No stable ground to cling to
  7. No anchor for my root
  8. No buoy to lift me up
  9. No lighthouse to guide me home
  10.
  11. Oh, won’t some friendly swimmer
  12. Come out to help save me?
  13. With gentle arms to hold me
  14. With straining legs to urge me
  15. With kissing breath sustain me
  16. With kindly face to watch our progress
  17. Where is that able seaman,
  18. Someone to guide me home?
  19.
  20. Where is that distant shore,
  21. Is it one I’ve never seen?
  22. Or is it just like the last I left,
  23. As uncertain as before?
  24. Will the natives there be friendly,
  25. Or tear my heart apart?
  26. Will I know their language?
  27. Will they understand the words I speak?
  28.
  29. Give me warm sandy beaches
  30. Let sun and breeze and your caress
  31. Across my thighs and chest
  32. Release this swelling tide
  33. Some smiling, suntanned native,
  34. Some crisp, proper sailor,
  35. Some salty, swaggering seaman,
  36. Or just another passenger like me
  37.
  38. Please rescue me from this swirling sea
  39. And guide me into haven-port
  40. Join me in my berth
  41. Soothe my tired, flagging soul
  42. Replace my lost confusion
  43. With surety and trust
  44. Then together will we rest
  45. And tomorrow, chart a new course
  46.
