Alphabet Soup
By Blue / Ben W.
~ 2007-05-02
- Letters, forming words, on a tomato page.
- An alphabet soup,
- But sometimes not so super.
- The letters in my bowl say:
- GLBT...Q...I...ABC...XYZ...too many.
- And other words, sharper than tomatoes.
- People who hate spit out labels like soup.
- A soupçon of words meant to stain, red and messy.
- Yet people who are friendly and
- People who are also GLBTQI...ABC...XYZ
- Use those labels too.
- How about the label:
- “Does not contain compassion.”
- From anyone to anyone?
- Why must there be a label?
- Does it matter so much who we like?
- She likes guys and so does he.
- So what if she likes women too?
- Straight, gay, both, neither,
- unsure, questioning, whatever.
- The labels are artificial.
- They limit. They take away humanity.
- They ruin compassion and understanding.
- Irony: a lack of love about loving.
- I stir my alphabet soup
- And rearrange the letters.
- No more labels, just words.
- Let the letters swirl harmless around.
- Alphabet soup, of letters, tomatoes
- Should nourish body and soul
- Heartwarming, simple, and everyday.
